An ergonomic workstation suitable for a user to perform a task on a computer. The workstation comprises a planar desk surface for supporting the display screen and the keyboard unit of the computer. A reclining chair is provided in front of the desk in which the user sits. The chair is mounted on a rectilinear track for translational movement relative to the desk. A foot rest under the desk maintains the feet of the user captive so that the user induces a translational movement of the chair upon tilting the chair, i.e. inclining the chair toward or away from the vertical position. The translational component of the movement to which the chair is subjected at least partially counterbalances the shift of position of the upper part of the user's body that the tilting component generates. As a result of this arrangement, the upper part of the user's body is maintained at the optimal position eyes/display screen and shoulders/keyboard.
