A surfactant composition which consists of 15 to 70 % by weight of water and 30 to 85 % by weight of an anion surfactant and a certain cation surfactant in a molar ratio of 1:(0.3 to 10) is described. The new surfactant compositions represent a clear and easily handleable liquid. Furthermore, a process for the preparation of these surfactant compositions is described, which process essentially consists in mixing the three components water, anion surfactant and cation surfactant with one another with the formation of two phases, and separating off the upper, desired surfactant phase from the lower salt phase. The new surfactant composition can be used for many purposes due to its advantageous properties.
