An armor unit for protecting coastal, river, lake, and reservoir banks, shorelines, and other structures from the damaging hydrodynamic forces of waves and water currents. The armor unit has a central elongate member (4) and first and second outer elongate members (8, 10) connected with the central elongate member on opposite sides thereof. The first and second outer elongate members have parallel longitudinal axes (12, 14) extending normal to the longitudinal axis (6) of the central elongate member. The elongate members may each have an octagonal cross section decreasing from an intermediate portion toward the opposite ends. When a plurality of units are interlocked to define a protective array, a high degree of wedging is afforded between the octagonal members. A form for casting the armor unit is also disclosed.

L'invention concerne une unité d'armature destinée à protéger les littoraux, les bords des rivières, des lacs et des bassins, les rivages, ainsi que d'autres structures, des dégâts causés par les forces hydrodynamiques des vagues et courants. L'unité d'armature comprend un élément central (4) de forme allongée ainsi que des premier et second éléments (8, 10) externes de forme allongée reliés à l'élément central sur les côtés opposés de celui-ci. Les premier et second éléments externes de forme allongée ont des axes longitudinaux parallèles (12, 14) s'étendant perpendiculairement à l'axe longitudinal (6) de l'élément central. Les éléments de forme allongée peuvent chacun présenter une section octogonale décroissante à partir d'une portion intermédiaire en direction des extrémités opposées. Lorsqu'on verrouille ensemble une pluralité d'unités pour former un agencement protecteur, on assure un degré très important de blocage entre les éléments octogonaux. L'invention concerne également un moule servant à couler l'unité d'armature.
