ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A copying or printing apparatus has a photo- conductive surface, a charging station to impart an electrostatic charge to at least a portion of the photoconductive surface, an exposure station, a development station and a transfer station followed by a discharge station, at the charging station a charging device in the form of a support surface having a plurality of conductive fibers extending therefrom to a substantially uniform height toward the photoconductive surface is provided and which has a conductor connected to a potential voltage source.
