CONFIGURATION MODULE FOR AVIONICS SIGNAL PROCESSING UNITS Abstract An apparatus and method for reducing the number of electrical connections required for remotely determining the operational configuration of an avionics system signal processing unit relative to optional sets of input and output signals as disclosed. The reduction in the number of connections is attained by utilization of a configuration memory (32) that is mounted on the tray (36) that receives the housing (34) containing the signal processing unit (12). Digitally encoded signals representative of the selected optional input and output signals are stored in a programmable nonvolatile memory (32) of configuration module (30) when the signal processing unit (12) is initially installed in the avionics system. The signals stored in the configuration module (30) are available for configuring replacement signal processing units.
