The present invention provides a removable brace or splint which is contoured to the shape of the body part which is to be restrained or protected. The brace (10) is formed from a flexible substrate (11) impregnated with a curable resin fitted with a flexi- ble, water-permeable cover (13) made of one component of a two component hook and loop fabric fastener system that is treated with a fluorochemical and a silicone. A properly sized and shaped brace made from the impregnated substrate is placed over a limb or joint and the resin is allowed to cure. After the resin has cured, the hook and loop fabric member is sufficiently adhered to the substrate in order to serve as a fastening surface to hold the orthopedic brace to the limb or joint and to allow multiple rem- oval and reattachment of the brace and repositioning of the bound hook and loop member.
