The decision to discard or forward a packet is made by a flow control mechanism, upstream from the forwarding engine in the node of a communication network. The forwarding engine includes a switch with mechanism to detect congestion in the switch and return a binary signal B indicating congestion or no congestion. The flow control mechanism uses B and other network related information to generate a probability transmission table against which received packets are tested to determine proactively whether a packet is to be discarded or forwarded.
Selon cette invention, un mécanisme de gestion d'écoulement, situé en amont du moteur d'envoi dans le noeud d'un réseau de communication, prend la décision d'annuler ou d'envoyer un paquet. Le moteur d'envoi comprend un commutateur pourvu d'un mécanisme qui détecte la congestion dans ce commutateur et renvoie un signal binaire B indiquant s'il y a ou non congestion. Le mécanisme de gestion d'écoulement utilise B et d'autres informations relatives au réseau pour générer une table de transmission des probabilités dans laquelle sont testés les paquets reçus afin de déterminer au préalable si un paquet doit être annulé ou envoyé.
