Provided herein are conjugates, kits, articles of manufacture and methods for detection, diagnosis and treatment by photodynamic therapy of certain undesired biological substrate targets, including, but not limited to bacteria, viruses, and other pathogenic microorganisms, tumors and hyperproliferative tissue. In particular, the conjugates provided include a fluorophore or photosensitizer linked to a targeting moiety and a quenching agent in such a way that activation of the fluorophore or the photosensitizer is quenched unless the targeting moiety is bound to a target, whereupon the quenching agent dissociates or moves away from the photosensitizer, enabling activation of the photosensitizer upon irradiation with light of a suitable wavelength.

La présente invention a trait à des conjugués, des trousses, des articles de fabrication et des procédés pour la détection, le diagnostic et le traitement par la thérapie photodynamique de certaines cibles de substrats biologiques indésirables, comprenant, mais de manière non exclusive, des bactéries, des virus, et d'autres micro-organismes pathogènes, des tumeurs et du tissu de prolifération excessive. En particulier, les conjugués selon l'invention comportent un fluorophore ou agent photosensibilisateur lié à un groupe fonctionnel de ciblage et un agent d'extinction de sorte que l'activation du fluorophore ou de l'agent photosensibilisateur est affaiblie en cas de non liaison du groupe fonctionnel de ciblage avec une cible, suite à quoi l'agent d'extinction se dissocie ou s'éloigne de l'agent photosensibilisateur, permettant l'activation de l'agent photosensibilisateur lors d'une irradiation avec de la lumière d'une longueur d'onde appropriée.
