Novel phystosterol and/or phytostanol derivatives, including salts thereof, are represented by general formulae: (I), (II), (III), wherein R is a phytosterol or phytostanol moiety, R2 is derived from ascorbic acid and R3 is hydrogen or any metal, alkali earth metal, or alkali metal. These derivatives are effective in treating and preventing cardiovascular disease and its underlying conditions including atherosclerosis and hyperlipedemia.

L'invention concerne de nouveaux dérivés de phystostérol et/ou de phytostanol, ainsi que leurs sels, lesquels dérivés sont représentés par les formules générales ci-après : (I), (II), (III), où R représente une fraction phytostérol ou phytostanol, R2 est dérivé de l'acide ascorbique et R3 désigne hydrogène ou un métal, métal alcalino-terreux ou métal alcalin quelconque. Ces dérivés sont efficaces dans le traitement et la prévention des maladies cardio-vasculaires, et de leurs états pathologiques sous-jacents, notamment l'athérosclérose et l'hyperlipidémie.
