2073511 9208790 PCTABS00013 Polymer protein compounds, which include a polymer, such as a polyvinyl polymer, acrylic polymer, polyester polymer or polyamide polymer having a main chain, a linker which separates the polymer from the protein by at least two carbons, the linker being covalently bonded to the polymer, and a protein covalently bonded to the linker group, stabilize the protein in a hostile environment. The polymer protein compounds may be made by reacting a linker with a protein to provide a linked protein, reacting the linked protein with a monomer to provide a linked protein monomer unit, and polymerizing the linked protein monomer units. The polymer protein compounds can be used to catalyze reactions in hostile environments.
