A connecting element configured as a bracket element (1) for an assembly system having system supports comprises two members (2; 3), wherein the members (2; 3) are provided with elongated openings (4, 5). The system support has on its outer walls openings in a predefined spacing. Notches (6, 7) are arranged in the zone of the elongated openings (4, 5); the notches can be brought into engagement with the complementary notches of a fastening element. For fastening of the bracket element (1), a fastening element is passed through the elongated openings (4, 5) and the openings in the outer walls of the system support and the fastening element tensioned. The complementary notches engaging in the notches (6, 7) creates a form- locking connection and makes possible an extensively released positioning of the openings in the outer walls of the support and fixation of the bracket element (1).
