ABSTRACT A connecting rod (10) for reciprocating piston machines having piston pin (38) and crankshaft ring (40) portions with bores (24,34) therein connected together by a load bearing member (46,48). The load bearing member has voids (58) within it adjoining the outer perimeters of the piston pin and crankshaft ring portions (38,40). When press-fitting a liner (16) or cup bearing (18) within the ring portion bores (24, 34), the voids (58) allow the piston pin (38) and crankshaft ring (40) portions to expand radially uniformly at the connection "B" between the ring portions and the load bearing member (46,48) such that the liners (16) and bearing (18) retain a substantially circular shape.
