The present invention relates generally to telecommunications, and more specifically, to a system and method of managing telecommunication connections. In telephony, the set up, maintenance and tear down of communications is implemented in a very inflexible and predetermined manner which impedes the addition of new features. The Internet is generally used as a simple transport network that is insensitive to performance requirements and therefore is a hindrance to high bandwidth services. The invention provides a system for managing connections which employs a proxy for each entity in the communication including each user and each telecommunication network. This allows a communication to be established with consideration for the resources available to each entity, in their respective limitations. This allows new services to be implemented over multiple networks, with the assurance that the necessary bandwidth and other resources will be available.
Cette invention qui se rapporte, d'une manière générale, aux télécommunications, porte, plus précisément, sur un système de gestion de connexion de télécommunications ainsi que sur le procédé afférent. En téléphonie, l'établissement, le maintien et l'arrêt d'une communication se font d'une façon préétablie et manquant de souplesse, ce qui interdit l'adjonction de nouvelles fonctions. Le réseau Internet, qui n'est, en général, utilisé que comme simple réseau de transport, insensible aux exigences en matière de performances, constitue une entrave à l'utilisation de service en largeur de bande supérieure. Cette invention a trait à un système de gestion de connexion faisant appel à un mandataire pour chaque entité de la communication, dont chaque utilisateur et chaque réseau de télécommunications. Cet agencement permet d'établir une communication avec prise en compte des ressources dont dispose chaque entité ainsi que des limites de chacune. Il permet également de mettre sur pied de nouveaux services sur plusieurs réseaux, en assurant que la largeur de bande nécessaire, comme d'autres ressources, seront disponibles.
