The present invention provides methods, apparatus and systems for protecting connections between optical cross-connect switches and client equipment. A connection failure is detected, signaled, and a switch made by the client equipment and the optical cross-connect switch to a protection connection between them so as to minimize service interruption. An out-of-band channel or an in-band channel can be used to signal the connection failure.

La présente invention concerne des procédés, un appareil et des systèmes qui protègent des connexions entre des commutateurs optiques de connexion croisée et le matériel du client. Dans ce procédé, une défaillance de la connexion est détectée, signalée et une commutation est faite par le matériel du client et le commutateur optique de connexion croisée pour passer sur une connexion protégée entre ces dernier afin de réduire au maximum l'interruption du service. Un canal hors bande ou un canal intrabande peut être utilisé pour signaler la défaillance de la connexion.
