Techniques for physically implementing fiber ring networks which achieve full mesh connectivity, such networks including a 2-fiber WDM ring network composed of a clockwise ring, and a 4-fiber WDM Self-Healing Ring Network. The number of wavelengths required is derived for both odd and even number of nodes (901-904) on the ring. To physically set-up all required connections in the network, optimal wavelength assignment algorithms are devised so that the wavelength assignment between nodes (901-904) on the ring is systematic and engenders full mesh connectivity while avoiding any possible violation of the color clash constraint. An illustrative algorithm uses a simple matrix approach for calculating the interconnection arrangement.

Cette invention a trait à des techniques permettant de mettre en oeuvre physiquement des réseaux à fibres optiques (Fig. 9) à connectivité maillée totale, ces réseaux comportant un réseau annulaire multiplexé en longueur d'onde (MRL) à deux fibres, composé d'un anneau sens horaire, et comportant un réseau annulaire MRL à reconfiguration dynamique à quatre fibres. Le nombre de longueurs d'ondes requis est dérivé à la fois des nombres impairs et pairs de noeuds (901-904) de l'anneau. Afin d'établir physiquement toutes les connexions requises dans le réseau, on formule des algorithmes d'affectation de longueur d'onde optimale, cette affectation de longueurs d'ondes entre les noeuds (901-904) de l'anneau étant méthodique et débouchant sur une connectivité maillée totale et ce, tout en respectant les règles de concordance des couleurs. Un algorithme type utilise une simple approche matricielle pour calculer le mécanisme d'interconnexion.
