Abstract A device for forming a mechanical and/or electrical connection between a plurality of elongate objects, for example bus bars in electrical switchgear, comprises one or more inserts or shell members that can be positioned about the ends of the objects to form u tubular assembly extending between the objects. One or more memory metal drivers in the form of bands or rings may be provided for retaining the tubular assembly in position and forcing the shell portions against the objects so that a good electrical contact is formed. Preferably an annular protuberance or contact surface is provided on the internal surface of the shell members at each end thereof, and are preferably arranged so as to be partly flattened as the bonds or rings contract, thereby increasing the contact area between the shell members and the objects.
