ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to modular interconnection systems. In a well known interconnection technique, a cable is extended from the telephone signaling and switching equipment to a telephone station via a pair of mating connector units. The present invention provides an improved interconnection system in which the modular concept is provided with added flexibility in the interconnection of telephone signaling and switching equipment and telephone stations. The present invention provides a telephone connection system for interconnecting circuits of telephone switching and signaling equipment to circuits of a telephone station employs a first multi-conductor cable connected to the switching and signaling equipment and a second cable having a lesser number of conductors connected to the telephone station. Matable connector apparatus connects the conductors of the second cable to selected conductors of the first cable, the connector apparatus including first, second, third and fourth electrical connectors. The first and second electrical connectors are cooperably matable, and third and fourth electrical connectors are cooperably matable, the third electrical connector being mounted on and covered by a common hood with the second electrical connector. The contacts of the third electrical connector may be connected to selective contacts of a second electrical connector, or such connections may be per- manent and the positions of the contacts of the second electrical connector may be changed In order to provide flexibility in associating the circuits of the telephone station with selected circuits of the switching and signaling equipment.
