ABSTRACT A separable connector for cables of the optical waveguide type is disclosed with pin and socket terminals for connecting corresponding cables. The socket terminal comprises a sleeve which is fixedly mounted in one connector member and a socket shaft within the sleeve is adapted to receive one cable with the bundle of fibers extending through the shaft. A coil spring is interposed between the sleeve and shaft. The pin terminal is fixedly mounted in the other connector member and is adapted to receive a cable with the fibers extending through a bore in the shaft of the pin terminal. When the connector members are placed in mating engagement the pin terminal enters the sleeve of the socket terminal and the end of the pin shaft abuts the end of the socket shaft and pushes it against the spring. The rearward end portions of the pin and socket terminals are knurled with a jacket of the wave- guides being adapted to telescopically fit thereover with a crimp sleeve fit thereover. A strong gripping securement is provided without the possibility of interfering with the axial locating and/or alignment of the fiber ends. A relative inexpensive crimp ring, and not the sleeve, is deformed.
