Abstract The present invention relates to a connector which is comprised of an assembly of six side-by-side segments. Each segment is made of an electrically conductive material. Each segment has a cross sectional portion which is comprised of an inner half composed of three sides corresponding to one half of a hexagon, and an outer half. The inner halves of the six segments form with their innermost sides a hexagonal shaped opening that is adapted to accommodate a plug. A retainer is provided which surrounds and presses against the outer halves of the six segments. The retainer includes at least one resilient ring that exerts an inward force against the six segments and against any plug that is inserted into the hexagonal-shaped opening.
