ABSTRACT A method of, and apparatus for, making a paper copy of an image rendered by a video frame represented by periodic video signals, by dividing the range of amplitude of the vi- deo signals into N levels, converting the video signals into N two-level distributions of brightness on the screen of a monochromatic CRT (cathode ray tube), and a picture element (pixel) in the ith distribution has the upper one of the two levels only if the level of the video signal representing the corresponding picture element in the frame exceeds the ith level. A photosensitive material is exposed to light from the screen.
