ABSTRACT A method for determining accurately the migration velocities for use in seismic migration processing of seismic data. The method presorts the seismic data into common-offset sections. The common-offset data is then migrated repeatedly with a selected range of velocities. The migrated data for each velocity is further sorted into a common-image point profile. The correct velocity per depth may then be determined by either determining the least time moveout for the common-image point at each depth, or computing the semblance for each common-image point and each test velocity and selecting the largest semblance value.
