ABSTRACT The element according to the invention consists in a pre- ferred embodiment of two panes (10, 12) assembled in the manner of a composite or laminate pane, a thermally in- sulating layer, for example an air or inert gas layer, for- med between said panes, and a sheet-like photovoltaic unit (18) which is arranged between the one pane (10) and the thermally insulating layer and which car, consist of a trans- parent semiconductor material. By this configuration of the element the solar energy is optimally available as light and thermal energy in accordance with its spectral dis- tribution and after conversion by the photovoltaic element also as electrical energy.
