Abstract of the Disclosure In consumable electrode welding both the arc voltage and the electrode speed are monitored. The resulting signals are processed to derive a motor control signal that increases and decreases the speed of the electrode drive motor in response to increases and decreases respectively of the arc voltage and that increases and decreases the torque of the electrode drive motor in response to increases and decreases respectively in the load on the motor.
