ABSTRACT Liquids or gases in suspension in one another as mists or foams are separated continuously and the incipient entrainment of mists or foams suppressed during gas/liquid contact by a process whereby both phases are spun about a vertical axis extending through the center of a horizontal circular orifice, through which they are made to flow counter- currently. The descending liquid phase spinning outward and downward from the lower edge of the orifice will generate a generally continuous annular curtain of liquid through which the spinning gaseous phase will be made to bubble before it will be able to reach the orifice, through the center of which it will rise. The centrifugal acceleration of the spinning liquid curtain will not only suppress the entrainment inward of ? mist droplets by the gaseous phase and outward of foam by the liquid phase but mist droplets suspended in the gaseous phase will be captured by the liquid curtain, from which entrained foams will be carried off by the gaseous phase passing through it.
