CONTACT ASSEMBLY INCORPORATING RETAINING MEANS ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a cable connector for use by relatively Inexperienced personnel. Prior art connectors have utilized crimping and soldering techniques to couple the Inner ele- ment of the cable to a contact in the connector. Soldering Is time consuming and requires special techniques in order to prevent unsatisfactory joints. Crimp tools are expensive cumbersome and usually are useful with only one cable size. The connector field has therefore long needed a connector which can be used not only by experienced personnel in the field In a minimum of time without special tools but also by the public. The disclosed connector Includes a terminating member disposed within a passageway In the connector and means for securing the inner element to the termlna- ting member. The securing means Is adapted to freely receive the Inner element upon initial insertion of the cable Into the cable- receiving opening and is responsive to further insertion of the cable Into the cable-receiving opening to secure the Inner element to the terminating member.
