Benzyldimethyl{2-[2-(p-1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutylphenoxy)ethoxy]ethyl} ammonium chloride (BDT) forms the basis of contact lens solutions that are unusually effective at reducing the number and wide variety of pathogenic microorganisms that may infect rigid gas permeable or soft contact lenses. Furthermore, it has been discovered that natural occurring compounds alone and in combination with chemical agents can be used in ophthalmic solutions such as contact lens solution to enhance and complement their anti-microbial, cleaning and wetting activity or to reduce irritation to the eye. The basic contact lens solution comprises an effective concentration of BDT (preferably 1 to 100 parts per million), with naturally occurring plant products possessing activities complementary to BDT, in an isotonic diluent buffered with a physiologically acceptable buffer to a physiologically natural range.
Le chlorure de benzyldiméthyl {2-[2-(p-1,1,3,3-tétraméthylbutylphénoxy)éthoxy]éthyl} d'ammonium (BTD) constitue la base de solutions pour lentilles de contact qui contribuent étonamment bien à réduire le nombre et la diversité des micro-organismes susceptibles d'infecter des lentilles de contact, qu'elles soit du type souple ou rigide perméable au gaz. De plus, on a constaté que certains composés naturels, seuls ou en combinaison avec des agents chimiques, pouvaient être intégrés à des solutions ophtalmiques, notamment à des solutions pour lentilles de contact, afin d'en renforcer et d'en compléter l'action anti-microbienne, le pouvoir nettoyant et la mouillabilité ou encore d'atténuer l'irritation des yeux. La solution de base pour lentilles de contact comprend une concentration efficace de BDT (de préférence à raison de 1 à 100 ppm) avec des produits végétaux naturels possédant des activités complémentaires de celles du BDT, dans un diluant isotonique tamponné au moyen d'un tampon physiologiquement acceptable dans une plage physiologiquement naturelle.
