ABSTRACT A process is described for contacting a first liquid with a second immiscible liquid or with solids carried therein. The process uses a contactor comprising a drum in which is mounted a rotor having axially spaced discs to divide the drum into intercommunicating compartments. Buckets rotate with the discs in at least some of the compartments so as to cause intermingling of the liquids. A reagent to promote the process is injected in at least some of the compartments.
