ABSTRACT A novel container for storing sorted materials and in particular waste includes removable support rails having ears from which bags with handles and rigid receptacles may be suspended. Bags without handles may also be suspended in the container by placing a folded portion of the bag through slots which would otherwise receive the ends of the support rails. The lower surfaces of the rails are spaced from the bottom of the container to define a large free region below the rails which is capable of accommodating the expansion of the bags held by the container. A lid overlies the upper peripheral edge of the container walls to close the top of the container but is movable to permit access to the interior of the container. The container may optionally include a lower compartment which is isolated from the rest of the container and sized to receive paper waste such as newspapers and the like.
