ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A container compactor for flattening out a normally cylindrical container. The compactor has a mounting base with an upright support mounted on it. Slideably supported on the upright is a platen which when forced downwardly towards the mounting base crushes or compacts a container placed between the platen and the mounting base. Attached to the platen is a crimping device which as well when forced downwardly toward the mounting base compacts a limited portion of the container and forces the container ends to a degree to approach each other. It is subsequent to the crimping action that the container is then placed between the platen and the mounting base and totally compacted. The force applied by the platen and attached crimper is carried out by a force applying arm pivotally connected to the uppermost end of the upright support. A manual force is applied to the free end of the force applying arm. Intermediate the pivoted end and the free end of the force applying arm is mounted a variable pressure arm with notches to be engaged by a pressure link connected to the platen. A spring biases the pressure link forward during repositioning movement of the force applying arm to gain a lever advantage for the final and complete crushing or compacting of the container.
