A container device for defrosting frozen foodstuff and comprised of an open top end container for holding a hot liquid therein and a cover of heat conductive material securable over the open top end. The cover has an exterior heat transfer surface for supporting foodstuff thereon. The cover further has an inner surface which is provided with a pattern of ribs to increase the surface area of the inner surface to expose a larger surface area to the hot liquid to absorb heat into the cover and transmit same to the exterior heat transfer surface so that frozen foodstuff positioned thereon will thaw substantially quickly as compared to thawing foodstuff exposed in a refrigerator or elsewhere where it may be subjected to contamination. The device is also safer and advantageous over microwave oven thawing where microwave radiation is emitted and the taste of the foodstuff is affected.
