ABSTRACT A container for an electric furnace has a base for receiving molten metal, and a container wall above the melt zone, the interior portion of which is composed of individual cooling elements. An upper band encircles the cooling elements and is connected to the base by means of support elements which form the exterior portion of the container wall. The support members can be swung outwardly to provide access to the cooling elements. .
