2066606 9201625 PCTABS00010 A multiple use container (10, 150) for dispensing fluids, such as fluids used in eye care, particularly preservative free preparations in variable doses, includes a squeezable container (12, 152) for holding the fluid. A dispenser assembly (14, 166) associated with an exit opening (24, 158) from the container (12, 152) includes a hollow dispensing tip (26, 168) which encloses a fluid valve (46, 178/180). A resilient biasing means (80, 180, 116, 122, 140, 252) holds a piston head (82, 118, 124, 142, 192, 232) in a normally sealed or closed position. A second opening (40, 204/208, 108) in communication with the interior of the bottle (12, 152) is covered by a hydrophobic filter (90, 206/182) having a pore size that prevents microbial contaminants from entering the container (12, 152) but prohibits fluid from leaving the container. The bottle (12, 152) is squeezed to open the valve (44, 178/180) to dispense fluid from the bottle (12, 152). Upon release of that manual pressure, the fluid valve (46, 178/180) closes and air passes through the filter (90, 206/182) to replace the dispensed fluid. The air entering the container (12, 152) is sterilized by the filter (90, 206/182).
