ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A container for holding at least one recording disk includes a container base formed with a center opening and a disk holding space, and engaging and holding members movable between a first position for holdingly engaging the disk and a second position for being released from holding engagement with the disk, whereby the disk in the disk holding space can be pre- vented from being dislodged from the disk holding space when the engaging and holding members are in the first position. The disk held in the container can be placed on a turntable of a disk playing system without requiring user's manual attention. Such disk playing system includes, besides a turntable, a loading base, release pins, a disk cam formed with cam slots each for receiving one of the release pins, and a vertically moving screw engaged by a rotary nut. When the disk container is placed on the loading base, the release pins move through the respective cam slots as the disk cam rotates to bring the release pins into engagement with the respective engaging and holding members, and move the latter to the second position in which they are released from holding engagement with the disk and allow same to be placed on the turntable. Meanwhile the loading base is pivotally moved upwardly by the vertically moving screw as the rotary nut is driven, to move the container away from the disk and allow a pickup or the turntable to be selec- tively moved in a radial direction of the disk on the turn- table to play the disk.
