ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A container for loose material such as hot coal container for use in a coke oven battery has a gas extraction opening on top of the container housing. The gas extraction opening is separate from the hot coal inlet and communicates with the interior of the container through a gas discharge channel, the channel being spaced from the stream of the material as it is filled into the container. The container enables an intensive pre- settling of the dust contained in the gases, whereby substantial portion of the dust remains within the container.
