ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A container of an uranium alloy is provided for the final storage of radioactive wastes. This container is less susceptible to corrosion and shows no anisotropic thermal expansion at elevated temperatures. For this purpose the pre- ferably decayed uranium is alloyed with 5 to 15% of molybdenum, 2 to l5% of copper, 1 to 5% of zirconium, 0.5 to 5% of chromium, 0.5 to 2% of nickel, 0.5 to 1.5% of niobium and/or 0 to 5% of iron with the stipulation that the total content of the alloying metals is 10 to 16% and the addition of chromium, nickel and niobium is at least 1.5%.
