The present invention relates to a multiple position stand for holding container lids. In one embodiment, there is provided a rigid, frusto-conical shell segment having a large rim end and a small rim end and defining a gap that spans the length of the shell. The gap enables a hand to access the interior of the shell, so that the hand holding a container lid can maintain continuous contact with the lid until the lid is placed to rest on the rim end serving as a stand cradle. The stand is selectably positionable in a small lid support position so that the small rim end serves as the stand cradle, and the large rim end rests on a counter top or other surface to serve as the stand base. The stand is selectably positionable in a large lid support position so that the large rim end serves as the stand cradle and the small rim end serves as the stand base. There is provided a second embodiment comprising a plurality of bars that interconnect to resemble the notional frusto-conical shell segment of the first embodiment. The taper of the frusto-conical shape in both embodiments enables multiple stands to be stacked on top of each other to minimize space consumption.
