16 ABSTRACT A container and lid combination of the kind used for industrial waste disposal has a locking assembly which includes an enclosure fixed to the container, a locking member and having means for connection to the lid, and the combination of a protuberance and a recess between the locking member and the enclosure, so that when these are in engagement the lid cannot be opened. A swing arm enforces such engagement when it is in its normal position with the container upright, but can swing away from that position to allow the locking member to disengage from the protuberance, thus allowing the lid of the container to be raised. The swinging of the swing arm is accomplished either manually by pulling on the arm at a location spaced away from its pivot location, or by the force of gravity when the collector truck inverts the container in order to pour its contents into the rear of the truck.
