ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A container with a screw-fitting or push-fitting cap. The opening beneath the cap is closed by a tear-off or tear-away foil membrane which is sealed by means of a sealing layer onto the edge of the opening and is provided with a tear-off tag. The foil membrane is substantially metal free at least in the region of its tear-off tag. The entire foil membrane together with its tear-off tag can be substantially metal free, whereupon a discoid metal foil can be arranged over or beneath the foil membrane, the overall shape of which metal foil is adapted to that of the container opening.
