The instant invention is directed to a domed container and a process for using it. The container may be used for the preparation as well as the display of food. The food may be prepared while in the container by heating in a microwave or convection oven or by refrigeration or freezing, depending upon the type of food product it is. Unbaked pastry dough requires baking, while cheesecake requires refrigeration. The container comprises a receptacle, a cover which locks to the receptacle, and a hollow member. There is at least one groove in the top surface of the receptacle. The groove is in a closed, continuous pattern, as is the hollow member. Often the hollow member is in the shape of a ring. The hollow member fits perpendicularly in the groove of the receptacle and is held in place by an interference fit resulting from friction between the hollow member and the sides of the groove. Following preparation, the hollow member may be left in place or removed for decoration of the food product. The cover is then locked to the receptacle and the food product displayed.
