Organic contaminants of solid particles, especially oil in drill cuttings, are removed by passing the contaminated particles into a processing chamber (1), usually having an inert atmosphere, generating a circumferentially directed flow of fluid within the chamber (1) to cause the particles to circulate in the chamber (1) in a turbulent compact band, converting the organic contaminants into a gaseous material and removing particles substantially free from organic contaminants from the chamber (1). Preferably the gaseous material is cooled in one or especially two stages to separate high boiling organic liquids first and water and other organic liquids second.
On extrait des agents contaminants organiques de particules solides, en particulier de l'huile à partir de sédiments de forage, en faisant passer lesdites particules contaminées dans une chambre de traitement (1) à atmosphère généralement inerte, en générant un écoulement de fluide dans une direction circonférentielle dans la chambre (1), afin d'y faire circuler les particules en un écoulement en forme de bande compacte et turbulente, en convertissant les agents contaminants organiques en une matière gazeuse, et en enlevant les particules pratiquement dépourvues desdits agents contaminants de la chambre (1). La matière gazeuse est de préférence refroidie en une, ou plus particulièrement en deux étapes, afin de séparer tout d'abord les liquides organiques à point d'ébullition élevé, et ensuite l'eau et d'autres liquides organiques.
