ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A mining method is disclosed which involves excavating completely a vein of mineral ore by excavating the mineral ore vein over the length of a prescribed space using an excavator, then hydraulically transporting the excavated ore in a sealed condition to treatment equipment separate from the excavator, and then filling in the resultant excavated hole with material which is excavatable by the excavator. This process of excavating the mineral ore vein and filling in the open holes is then repeated at locations adjacent to, or spaced at an appropriate distance from, the filled-in hole until the entire vein of mineral ore is excavated. The method is particularly suited to the excavation of ores containing radioactive material, such as uranium ore, and avoids scattering of ore particles and consequent contamination of the working environment.
