A method and system for coding an image using context-based adaptive VLC where transform coefficients are partitioned into blocks having a block dimension of 4nx4m (with n, m being positive integer equal to or greater than 1). Each block is scanned in a zigzag manner to produce an ordered vector of coefficients having a length of 16nxm. The ordered vector is sub-sampled in an interleaved manner to produce nxm sub-sampled sequences of transform coefficients prior to encoding the transform coefficients using an entropy encoder.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un système de codage d'une image au moyen d'un VLC adpatatif basé sur le contexte, dans lequel des coefficients de transformation sont partitionnés en blocs présentant une dimension du bloc de 4nx4m (n, m étant un entier positif égal ou supérieur à 1). Chaque bloc est balayé en zigzag pour produire un vecteur ordonné de coefficients présentant une longueur de 16nxm. Le vecteur ordonné est sous-échantillonné par entrelacement afin de produire des séquences nxm sous-échantillonnées de coefficients de transformation, préalablement au codage des coefficients de transformation par un codeur entropique.
