A design and method of manufacture are disclosed for a female continence augmentor device used to alleviate urinary incontinence. the female continence augmentor includes a mount formed of a resilient material, an intralumenal part carried on the mount and a resilient portion carried on the intralumenal part of the device. The mount adheres to the female body about the urethral exit to support the female augmentor into position to prevent inadvertent urine loss. The intralumenal part of the device extends from the mount into the urethral lumen at least to the mid-urethra. In particular, the resilient portion of the intralumenal part extends into the urethra and is adapted to at leat urge the dorsal urethral wall in the dorsal direction to stretch and/or reshape the mid-urethral lumen to have a more arcuate shape. Thus, the mid- urethral lumen in cross-section would preferably exhibit a crescent shape of smaller radius. As such, the female continence augmentor enables a patient to void voluntarily with normal muscle control and without requiring conscious action to operate the device. Following voiding, the continence augmentation function of the device resumes automatically thereby increasing urethral resistance to opening and preventing inadvertent urine loss.
L'invention concerne un dispositif (10, 10', 10'' ou 10''') pour augmenter la continence vésicale chez la femme, conçu pour empêcher les pertes involontaires d'urine provoquées par une augmentation passagère de la pression vésicale mais permettant l'écoulement passif de l'urine lorsque la vessie est vidée volontairement. Le dispositif, qui sert à augmenter la coaptation urétrale tout en augmentant la résistance du milieu de l'urètre à l'ouverture de la lumière, comprend ce qui suit: un socle (12, 12', 12'' ou 12''') en matière souple; une partie intraluminale (13, 13', 13'' ou 13''') disposée sur le socle et conçue pour s'étendre depuis ce dernier de manière à faire saillie dans la lumière urétrale, au moins jusqu'au milieu de l'urètre et; une partie souple (14, 14', 14'' ou 14''') soutenue par la partie intraluminale placée à l'intérieur de la lumière de l'urètre, au milieu de cette dernière, et conçue pour solliciter en direction dorsale au moins la paroi dorsale du milieu de l'urètre de manière à étirer et/ou à remodeler la lumière du milieu de l'urètre pour lui conférer une coupe transversale plus arquée.
