The invention relates to a continuous-action filtering method, a filtering apparatus, as well as to the use of the discussed apparatus as an automatic filter in the fuel or lubrication system of an engine. According to the invention, the apparatus comprises three filtering units (2, 5), having a common inlet channel (7) for a flow to be filtered, a common outlet channel for a filtered flow, as well as a common valve element (9) provided with flow connections (10) for controlling the flow in such a manner that the filtering units are in operation one at a time. An essential feature in the operation of the valve element (9) is its ability to rotate around its axis and, furthermore, its ability to move between two different positions, the two filtering units (2) being operable alternately by rotating the valve element and the third filtering unit (5) being operable by moving the valve. The valve element is constituted e.g. by a cylindrical, axially movable spindle (9), which is also rotatable around its axis. In an automatic filter, the two filtering units (2) can be used for a normal filtering process, wherein, with one of the units in operation at a given time, the other is subjected to a backflush, and the third unit (5) is set in operation as said two units are being serviced.
La présente invention concerne un procédé de filtrage agissant en continu, un appareil de filtrage, ainsi que l'utilisation de l'appareil de l'invention comme filtre automatique du carburant ou du système de lubrification d'un moteur. L'appareil selon l'invention comprend trois unités filtrantes (2, 5) présentant, d'une part un canal d'entrée commun (7) destiné au flux à filtrer, d'autre part un canal de sortie commun destiné au flux filtré, et enfin un élément soupape commun (9) pourvu de connexions fluidiques (10) permettant de réguler le débit de façon à maintenir les unités filtrantes en fonction de filtrage une à la fois. Une caractéristique essentielle du fonctionnement de l'élément soupape (9) et son aptitude à tourner autour de son axe, et en outre, son aptitude à se déplacer entre deux positions différentes, les deux unités filtrantes (2) étant à même de fonctionner à tour de rôle par une rotation de l'élément soupape. La troisième unité filtrante peut être mise en oeuvre par un déplacement de la soupape. Cet élément soupape est constitué notamment d'un boisseau cylindrique (9), axialement mobile, qui est capable également de rotation autour de son axe. Dans un filtre automatique, les deux unités filtrantes (2) conviennent à un processus de filtrage normal, selon lequel, une seule unité est en fonction à un moment donné, l'autre étant soumise à un reflux, la troisième unité (5) n'étant mise en fonctionnement que pendant l'entretien des deux autres unités.
