ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A furnace of the vertical type for continuously annealing a steel strip is provided with cylindrical rolls in contact with the steel strip at positions close to hearth rolls provided in a high-temperature zone of the furnace. The cylindrical rolls correct wrinkles in the steel strip caused by the convex shape of the hearth rolls, and thus prevent buckling which is likely to occur in the steel strip.
