ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved continuously cast steel bar having a more uniform distribution of constituents and impurities to thereby provide a better cast steel product for subsequent processing. The novel continuously cast steel bar has, when measured in transverse cross-section, particularly low and consistent variations in average oxygen content, average carbon content, average sulfur content, and average manganese content while possessing a tensile strength in the as-cast condition that is approximately ten percent greater than as-cast steel bars cast from the same melt but using a commercially proven prior art process.
