ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In continuous casting, a protective tube is located about the stream of molten metal between ladle and tundish. At least the inside of the tube is made of a refractory heat insulating material of low density and low thermal conductivity. The tube extends down into the tundish at least to the molten metal surface.
