ABSTRACT A process for manufacture of volatile organic compound products like ethanol by fermenting a carbohydrate with a microorganism, continuously draining a portion of the fermentation medium to a filter for removing solids and microorganisms. The retentate containing solids and microorganisms is returned to the fermenter, and the permeate is passed through further filtering to remove gases. Finally the gas depleted permeate is passed through pervaporation filtering to remove product.
