A continuous, hybrid magnetic field gradient device for colloidal magnetic affinity separation having an axially-rotating horizontal glass tube, and a plurality of axially located repeating magnetic units. Each magnetic units consists of an alternating current solenoid that surrounds the chamber followed by computer-controlled electromagnets carrying a direct current. The on-off cycle of the electromagnets is used to control the residence time of target-bound magnetic particles in the chamber thereby allowing the separate collection of the particle and target rich fractions and the target-lean fractions without interrupting the feed flow. The azimuthally flowing alternating current in the solenoid introduces transient axial and radial forces as well as torque on the magnetic particles, promoting mixing.

L'invention concerne un dispositif à gradient de champ magnétique hybride continu pour séparation par affinité magnétique colloïdale, qui comprend un tube de verre horizontal à rotation axiale et une pluralité d'unités magnétiques situées dans le sens axial. Chaque unité magnétique comprend un solénoïde à courant alternatif qui entoure la chambre, suivi d'électro-aimants à commande par ordinateur portant un courant direct. Le cycle marche-arrêt des électro-aimants est utilisé pour réguler le temps de séjour de particules magnétiques liées-cibles dans la chambre, ce qui permet de recueillir séparément les fractions particulaires et cibles riches et les fractions particulaires pauvres sans interrompre le flux d'alimentation. Le courant alternatif à écoulement azimutal dans le solénoïde introduit des forces axiales et radiales transitoires, de même qu'un couple sur les particules magnétiques, ce qui favorise le mélange.
