The invention concerns a continuous method for preparing ethyl lactate by esterifying lactic acid with ethanol, in the presence of a catalyst which consists in reacting said lactic acid with ethanol in an initial ethanol/lactic acid mol ratio not less than 2.5, in the presence of a catalyst, at a reflux of the reaction medium of about 100 ·C under absolute pressure ranging between 1.5 to 3 bars. Said method is characterized in that it consists in continuously extracting from the esterification reaction medium a near-azeotropic water/ethanol gas mixture; then in dehydrating said gas mixture directly using molecular sieves, then recuperating from said dehydration an ethanol gas stream capable of being recycled to the esterification reaction medium and a flow consisting of water and ethanol which is subjected to distillation wherefrom is obtained water and an azeotropic water/ethanol mixture which is injected into the distillation column head of the gas mixture extracted from the esterification reaction medium; then in continuously extracting crude ethyl lactate which is subjected to purification wherefrom are obtained high purity ethyl lactate and heavy products.

L'invention concerne un procédé continu de préparation de lactate d'éthyle par estérification d'acide lactique au moyen de l'éthanol, en présence d'un catalyseur qui consiste à faire réagir ledit acide lactique avec l'éthanol selon un rapport molaire initial éthanol/acide lactique au moins égal à 2,5, en présence d'un catalyseur, au reflux du milieu réactionnel qui se situe vers 100~C sous une pression absolue allant de 1,5 à 3 bars, ledit procédé étant caractérisé en ce que l'on extrait en continu, du milieu réactionnel d'estérification un mélange gazeux eau-éthanol proche de l'azéotrope ; puis que l'on déshydrate ce mélange gazeux directement au moyen de tamis moléculaires, puis que l'on récupère de ladite déshydratation un flux gazeux d'éthanol pouvant être recyclé au milieu réactionnel d'estérification et un flux constitué d'eau et d'éthanol qui est soumis à une distillation duquel on obtient de l'eau et un azéotrope eau-éthanol qui est injecté en tête de la colonne de distillation du mélange gazeux extrait du milieu réactionnel d'estérification ; puis que l'on extrait en continu du lactate d'éthyle brut qui est soumis à une purification de laquelle on obtient un lactate d'éthyle de haute pureté et des produits lourds.
